Level 1 Sight Singing Assessment
FFMHS Chorus-Sight Singing Assessment
6th-12th graders will sing and record a sight singing exercise during class. Each student must pass off this level in order to advance to the next level by the end of the current quarter. In order to do this, a minimum score of 2.93 (85) must be attained in order to go to level 2. This is a summative assessment.

Student always sings with a steady beat. It is smooth and there are no steady beat mistakes.

The student is not able to sing rhythms accurately at this time.
Beginning/Emerging
The student is occasionally sings rhythms accurately at this time. There are 5 or more rhythmic mistakes.
Progressing
Student SOMETIMES sings the rhythms accurately. There are 3-4 rhythmic mistakes, and the rhythmic mistakes take away from the overall performance.
Advancing
The student usually sings the rhythms accurately. There are 1-2 rhythmic mistakes and the rhythmic mistakes do not take away from the overall performance.
Mastering
The student always sings the rhythms accurately in the selected sight reading exercise. There are no rhythmic mistakes.
Syllable recognition
Limited
The student is not able to sing the correct syllables (numbers, letter names, or do/so).
Beginning/Emerging
The student occasionally sings the correct syllables (numbers, letter names or do/sol) consistently at this time. There were 5 or more mistakes in syllable recognition.
Progressing
Student ALWAYS sings the correct syllables (numbers, letter names or do/sol). There were 3-4 mistakes in syllable recognition and the mistakes take away from the overall performance.
Advancing
The student usually sings the correct syllables (numbers, letter names or do/sol). There were 1-2 mistakes in syllable recognition but the mistakes did not detract from the overall performance.
Mastering
The student always sings the correct syllables (numbers, letter names or do/sol). There were no mistakes in syllable recognition.
Pitch (intonation)
Limited
The student is not able to sing the correct pitches as this time.
Beginning/Emerging
The student occasionally sings the correct pitches at this time. The student may/may not be able to match any pitches.
Progressing
The student sometimes sings the correct pitches. There were 3-4 pitch mistakes. The exercise was sometimes in tune but mistakes detract from the overall performance.
Advancing
The student usually sings the correct pitches. There were 1-2 pitch mistakes. The exercise was usually in tune and the mistakes did not detract from the overall performance.
Mastering
The student always sings the correct pitches and the pitches are always in tune.
