Inspiring Quote	Poor The quote is not a complete sentence. The student does not demonstrate an understanding of the meaning of quotes.	Fair The writer somewhat understands the meaning of quotes.	Good The quote relates to the students' lives: school success, family success, friendship, community service, discipline. The motto is inspiring so that many students' lives could be changed or affected by the message.
Shield Design	Poor Not eye-catching; lack of color or creativity. Many errors in spelling, sentence structure, and punctuation. Small print; students would have to stand directly in front of the shield to see it.	Fair Somewhat eye-catching; some use of colors (at least 2). Few errors in spelling, sentence structure, or punctuation. Medium print; a student would have to stand 2 feet away in order to read the shield.	Good Eyecatching through the use of colors and other techniques. No errors in spelling, sentence structure, or punctuation. Large print; easily read if a student were standing at least 3 feet away.
Written Paragraph	Poor Many spelling and grammar errors.	Fair Very few spelling and grammar errors.	Good No spelling or grammar errors.
