Handwriting This rubric can be used to assess student handwriting in many different assignments.
	Unsatisfactory 1 pts	Poor 2 pts	Fair 3 pts	Good 4 pts	Outstanding 5 pts
Line Usage How well are the students using their writing lines?	Unsatisfactory Most all letters over or under the line	Poor Many letters over or under the line.	Fair Some letters over or under the line.	Good A few letters over or under the line.	Outstanding Almost always use lines correctly.
Spacing How well are students spacing their letters and/or words?	Unsatisfactory Rarely has even spacing betwen letters and words	Poor Uneven spacing between most letters and words.	Fair Uneven spacing between some letters and words.	Good Uneven spacing between a few letters and words.	Outstanding Almost always use proper spacing.
Letter Formation How well are students forming their letters correctly?	Unsatisfactory Most letters are formed incorrectly.	Poor Many letters are formed incorrectly	Fair Some letters a formed incorrectly	Good A few letters are formed incorrectly.	Outstanding Consistently forms letters correctly.
Size How well do the students make the letters the right size?	Unsatisfactory Most letters are too large or too small.	Poor Many letters are too large or too small.	Fair Some letters are too large or too small.	Good A few letters are too large or too small.	Outstanding Letters are the right size.
Neatness/Readability How neat is the students' handwriting? How easy is it to read the student's writing?	Unsatisfactory Very sloppy with numberous scratch outs and/or poor erasures. Very difficult to read.	Poor Many scratch outs and/or poor erasures. Difficult to read.	Fair Contains scratch outs and/or erasures not neatly done. Not easy to read.	Good Good erasures and easy to read.	Outstanding Clean and neat paper that is extremely easy to read.
