Understanding Stereotypes Understanding Stereotypes Students will spend three days learning and self-reflecting on the meaning of stereotypes, their personal experiences, and how they effect our school, community, and world. They will discover these things by participating in class discussions, physically moving around the room exploring other people’s opinions, answering introspective questions, working with their peers in collaborative groups, and writing a short paper about personal experiences with bias. Students' willingness to participat	Poor Group seems uninterested in subject-matter. They offer no or very little opinion. They do not add written material to assignment.	Fair Group seems somewhat interested in subject-matter. They offer a good amount of information to discussions and to the assignments.	Good Group seems very interested in subject-matter. They offer a large amount of information or opinions in discussions and on the assignment.
Openness to new ideas	Poor Group seems very close-minded about the subject-matter. They see no need for things to change or believe things should return to what they used to be.	Fair Group seems somewhat open to new ideas on subject-matter. They recognize that a change needs to occur but offers no amount of change needed.	Good Group is very open to new ideas about subject-matter. They strongly recognize the need for change and social justice throughout this country and the world.
Level of empathy toward targets	Poor Group shows very little empathy toward those that are targets of bias or stereotyping.	Fair Group shows some empathy toward those that are targets of bias or stereotyping.	Good Group shows a tremendous amount of empathy toward those that are targets of bias or stereotyping.
