Exposition	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify the characters by name.	Basic Student can identify the some characters by name.	Proficient Student can idenitify most characters by name.	Mastery Student can identify all the main characters by name.
Problem/Conflict	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify the problem.	Basic Student can identify a minor problem.	Proficient Student can identify the main story problem with few to no details.	Mastery Student can identify the main story problem and provide details about it.
Events(Rising and falling action)	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify events in the story.	Basic Student can identify some of the events in random order.	Proficient Student can identify most of the important events in order. These are many of the minor events also, which do not have a direct impact on the solution.	Mastery Student can identify all of the most important events in sequential order. These are the primary events that lead to the solution.
Climax	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify the tensest moment of the story.	Basic Student can identify the tensest moment of the story but cannot justify why it is the climax.	Proficient Student can identify the tensest moment of the story with a few details to support their thinking.	Mastery Student can identify the climax and provide details to support their thinking.
Resolution	Needs Improvement Student cannot identify the solution.	Basic Student can identify an event that did not solve the problem.	Proficient Student can identify a part of the solution with no specific connection to the problem.	Mastery Student can identify the solution as it directly relates to the problem.
