Style: Clarity & Accuracy
Exceeds 4
The language is clear and expressive. Explanation makes sense to an uninformed reader.
Meets 3
Minor, infrequent lapses in clarity and accuracy. Explanation mostly makes sense to a reader.
Approaches 2
There are lapses in clarity and accuracy. Explanation creates many questions.
Needs Improvement 1
Language is unclear and confusing throughout. Concepts are neither discussed nor presented accurately.
Voice
Exceeds 4
The writer speaks to the reader in a way that is individual, compelling, and engaging. Narrative writing adds interest and is appropriate for the purpose and respectful of the audience.
Meets 3
The writer seems sincere, but not fully engaged or involved with the reader. The writing skips a beat here and there but communicates in a pleasing manner. Narrative writing has moments of insight but not passionate.
Approaches 2
The writer keeps the reader at a safe distance. No special moments stand out. The narrative writing only tells doesn't show.
Needs Improvement 1
The writer is uninvolved and doesn’t reach out to reader. Writing doesn’t go beyond “I like it” or “It was fun” statements. Narrative writing is just an outline and doesn’t have detail to engage the reader.
Analysis
Exceeds 4
The reflection moves beyond simple description of the learning experience to an analysis of how the experience contributed to understanding of self, others, procedure, and/or community.
Meets 3
The reflection demonstrates attempts to analyze the learning experience but analysis lacks depth of how the learning experience contributed to understanding of self, others, procedure, and/or community.
Approaches 2
The reflection attempts at applying the learning experience to understanding self, others, procedure, and/or community but does not demonstrate depth of analysis. It is mostly a summary of the experience not an analysis.
Needs Improvement 1
Reflection does not move beyond description of the learning experience.
Concrete Evidence
Exceeds 4
Relevant, telling, quality details and concrete evidence from the project that allows the reader to go beyond the obvious or predictable.
Meets 3
Supporting details and concrete evidence from the project are relevant, but a few connections are unsupported and or overgeneralized descriptions.
Approaches 2
Supporting details and concrete evidence from the project are relevant, but several connections are unsupported and overgeneralized descriptions.
Needs Improvement 1
Supporting details are over generalized descriptions with some disconnect to the point of the speaker.
Grammar and Spelling
Exceeds 4
Writer makes no errors in grammar or spelling that distract the reader from the content.
Meets 3
Writer makes a couple errors in grammar or spelling do not distract the reader from the content.
Approaches 2
Writer makes a few errors in grammar or spelling that tend to distract the reader from the content.
Needs Improvement 1
Writer makes many errors in grammar or spelling that distract the reader from the content.
