Kicking Skills Assessment 
Students will be assessed on their skill acquisition, proficiency and attitude towards specific kicking activities related to soccer.

Kicking from a stationary posistion

Level 4

Student's leg is bent at the knee before kick. Correct arm action helps with the force of the kick.
Plant foot is next to ball
Follows through with kicking leg
Contacts the ball with the instep
Level 3

Student's leg is bent at the knee and arm swing helps with the distance of the kick.
Plant foot is around the ball but not in the proper spot
Contacts the ball with the instep
Level 2

Average contact with ball and eyes on target
Steps are taken to approach the ball but steps may not be balanced
Plant foot is near ball but not next to ball
Contacts the ball with toe or side of the foot <BR>
Little or no follow through resulting in loss of power
Level 1

Good contact with ball and eyes on target
No steps are taken to approach the ball (stand and swing)

Shot is erratic and not accurate
Dribbling the ball

Level 4

Student maintains ball at ideal distance and has the ball under control at all times. They use both feet and use both the inside and outside of their feet. The student goes in a straight line to the finish point at a good pace.
Level 3

Student keeps ball at a good distance and shows good control of the ball. They use both feet and only the inside or outside of their foot. The student goes in straight line to the finish point at a reasonable pace.
Level 2

Control is improving with use of both feet and striking the ball on the inside of foot. Student sometimes runs over the ball and lacks speed.
Level 1

Student uses toes to kick the ball in front of them and does not go in a straight line. The student is constantly chasing after the ball. Lacks any speed due to lack of control.
Passing the ball to a Partner

Level 4

Student passes the ball right on target (making it so that the partner does not have to move). Student uses the inside of their foot. Ball does not leave the ground.
Level 3

Student passes the ball within a close distance to their partner. Student sometimes uses the inside of their foot. Ball bounces on the ground through some of the pass.
Level 2

Student passes the ball with their toes and "pushes" the ball rather than kicks the ball. The ball goes toward the target but is off by several centimeters. The ball bounces for most of the pass.
Level 1

Student passes the ball with their toes and "pushes" the ball rather than kicks the ball. The ball goes nowhere near the target. The ball bounces for most of the pass.
Stopping/Trapping the ball

Level 4

Student is proficient at trapping the ball. Has shown improvement and can trap the ball 95% of the time using correct technique.
Level 3

Student is proficient at trapping the ball. Has shown improvement and can trap the ball 80% of the time using correct technique.
Level 2

Student is beginning to trap the ball. Has shown improvement and can trap the ball 60% of the time using correct technique.
Level 1

Student has difficulty trapping the ball or does not attempt to trap the ball. Showed little improvement.
Changing Direction

Level 4

Student is proficient at performing the outside and inside cut techniques and can change direction at ease.
Level 3

Student is comfortable with performing these kicking skills and can sometimes change direction
Level 2

Student is beginning to demonstrate the correct foot skills for changing direction.
Level 1

Student has difficulty changing direction and has not mastered the outside and inside cut skills
