	Poor (D/F) 1 pts	Fair (C) 2 pts	Above Average (B) 3 pts	Excellent (A) 4 pts
Grammar & Spelling 8 pts Students need to demonstrate proper grammatical skills.	Poor (D/F) Paragraph has many grammatical and spelling errors.	Fair (C) Paragraph has more than three grammatical and spelling errors.	Above Average (B) Paragraph has one or two grammatical and spelling errors.	Excellent (A) Paragraph does not have any grammatical or spelling errors.
Content 20 pts The content of the paragraph should answer the question and demonstrate understanding and extension of thought	Poor (D/F) Question was not addressed fully and answered with a simple statement. No supporting details or clarification of point or position.	Fair (C) Question was addressed but in general terms only. No details or elaboration supporting answer.	Above Average (B) Question was addressed and answered sufficiently with supporting details.	Excellent (A) Question was answered correctly with supporting details. Elaboration of position or addition of a new idea or comparison was included.
Completeness 12 pts Student needs to address the entire question adequately in their answer with details from the information given AND extend their thoughts beyond the details provided.	Poor (D/F) No answer.	Fair (C) Response did not address all parts of questions or posed an opinion that was not supported	Above Average (B) Response was complete, posed an opinion and supported it with evidence from story.	Excellent (A) Response was complete and provided additional relevant facts or analysis that compared elements from the story to concepts from learners own experience.
