Writing a Summary Paragraph 
Students were instructed to write a summarizing paragraph. Students were provided with a model of a paragraph which they analyzed to determine it must include topic sentence, detail sentences, and a closing sentence.

Excellent

The topic sentence is located in the beginning of the paragraph and is the main idea. Topic sentence describes what the story or article is about, giving the reader a sneak-peak to the rest of the paragraph.

Fair

Topic sentence is located in the beginning of the paragraph but does not provide the main idea of the paragraph. Reader has a difficult time understanding what the article is about.

Paragraph has a minimum of 3 or more details. The details describe the article or story and support the topic sentence.
