Rubric used to grade the Alice worlds created by 9th grade students in a Computer Science/ Computer Programming course. Created as apart of the Alice Unit project for a computer-based teaching methods course.

Background is present and has some relevance to the story, but an explanation is needed to understand the background.
Ex: Aliens searching for their spaceship in an underwater themed world, after crashing their spaceship.
Good
Background is present and is self explanatory. Background is also relevant to the story.
Ex: Aliens flying in a spaceship to a new galaxy in space.
Excellent
Background is present and self explanatory. Not only is the background present, but the props added are relevant to the story.
Ex: Aliens flying in a spaceship to a new galaxy in space. Planets and stars can be clearly seen in the background.
Character/World Interaction
Absent
No characters are present.
Poor
At least one character is present, but it is not moving at all or moving ruggedly. Character has little to no relevance to the story.
Ex: Rabbit standing still in mid air, at the bottom of the ocean.
Fair
At least two characters are present with movement, but the movements are rugged. Characters have some relevance to the story, but an explanation is needed.
Ex: Two rabbits hopping in mid air in the ocean.
Good
Two or more characters are present. Characters are moving realistically and are relevant to the story.
Ex: A group of rabbits hopping through the forest looking for carrots. It can be clearly seen that the rabbits are hopping on the ground.
Excellent
Three or more characters are present in the world. Some of the characters included are pre-made and others were created using he/she builder. The characters a moving with purpose through the world and are relevant to the story.
Ex: Fairytale themed world in which the characters(fairies, ogres, people) of the world are running toward the kingdom to overthrow the evil prince.
Character/Object Interaction
Absent
No interaction between characters or objects
Poor
Little interactions. The interaction between characters/objects does not tell a story or make sense.
Ex:Rabbits displaying aggressive behavior with no dialogue.
Fair
Some interaction between characters/objects. Interaction between characters is not relevant to the story/world.
Ex: Rabbits arguing about a computers in the middle of the forest. Dialogue boxes are included along with corresponding movements.
Good
Relevant interaction between characters/objects. Dialogue boxes are included along with corresponding movements.
Ex: Rabbits arguing about carrots in a forest.
Excellent
Relevant interaction between character/objects. Dialogue boxes are included along with corresponding movements. Movements go above and beyond what is in the character's repertoire.
Ex: Rabbits arguing about carrots while hopping through the forest.
Special Effects
Absent
No looping, no creation of methods or events
Poor
Might contain looping sequences, or use of methods or events, but is missing one or more of these elements.
Ex: Wings flapping for flying and methods and events for the world, but there is no title or credit screen to the world

Contains looping sequences for a total time of 10 seconds and several methods and events are used.

Contains looping sequences for a total time of 15 seconds, title and credit screens, and several methods and events are created.

Contains 45-59 seconds of interaction between characters and objects in the completed world.

Contains at least 90, but no more than 180, seconds of interaction between characters and objects in the completed world.
