Counting	Proficient Independently uses manipulatives and can recognizes value while counting.	Developing Counts with manipulatives most of the time with or without recognition of value.	Beginning Counts with manipulatives, but has slight confusion in organizing counters. May over or under count units.	Not Yet Needs encouragement and help to organize counters to use 1-1 correspondence. Needs direct supervison of teacher.
Understand the Concept of Addition	Proficient Is able to independently perform this task in the majority of problems given.	Developing Shows that she can perform the task, but occasionally needs more help from the teacher.	Beginning Is beginning to show ablility to perform the addition facts, but requires a lot of individual attention.	Not Yet Is very dependent upon the teacher to help with this task.
Symbol and Vocabulary	Proficient Independently recognizes and names symbols of addition problems: (+), (=) Independently switches between vocabulary: plus/and, makes/equals	Developing Can independently recognize addition symbols but may have trouble switching between vocabulary terms.	Beginning Usually needs some help identifying symbols and/or vocabulary terms.	Not Yet Depends heavily on teacher to identify and name addition symbols.
Use of Manipulatives	Proficient Is confidently able to use the manipultives to demonstrate correct addition process.	Developing Is occasionally able to use the manipultives to demonstrate correct addition process.
