Making Connections Makes connections between different readings.	Nonperformance Does not explain contents of at least two assigned readings.	Basic Summarizes contents of at least two assigned readings.	Proficient Analyzes and compares and contrasts at least two assigned readings.	Distinguished Evaluates assigned readings, making connections to other readings in a manner that shows insight into the topic for the class session.
Organization Present material in a clearly written and well organized manner, developing a coherent thesis.	Nonperformance The paper does not develop a coherent argument.	Basic A thesis is implicit, but the paper lacks a well organized structure, and/or logical transitions between paragraphs, and/or a clear introduction and/or conclusion.	Proficient A thesis is explicit, but transitions between paragraphs are not always apparent and/or the conclusion is not fully supported by the text.	Distinguished A thesis is explicit, the argument is presented logically, in a well organized fashion, and the conclusion provides a concise synthesis of ideas.
