The Script

Reading, analysis and interpretation of script

Not Meeting

Student has not read and understood the script. No givens are listed and the character objective is unclear.
Working Towards

Student has read and/or researched the play. Some givens are listed.
Objectives are stated but not in the proper terms. Some givens are listed. GOTE sheet and/or Uta Hagen nine questions have partially been completed or answers are vague.
Meeting

Student has read and/or researched the play and any material not known in the play. Givens and objectives are addressed and clearly stated. GOTE sheet and/or Uta Hagen nine questions have been answered thoroughly.
The Ground Plan

A ground plan is created and set up on the playing area.

Simplistic drawing with few details. Objects are missing or placed incorrectly as per the script.
Working Towards

Drawing includes most objects. A prop list is created and objects are found. Sight lines and actions are considered.
Meeting

A complete drawing is created. The prop list is used and the actor's personal touches are seen based on the script.
Use of time - rehearsal

Students spend time in class on task during the rehearsal process.

The problem is stated in clear terms. The solution is not completely thought out.
Meeting

The problem is clearly stated. Student makes adjustments in their playing to correct the problem.
Re-rehearsal

The scene is developed to a performance level with changes made which attempt to solve the identified acting problem.

Much time is spent off task. Little or no changes are made.
Working Towards

Some changes are made. The majority of the time is spent in reworking the scene.
Meeting

The final scene is significantly different from the first playing. Strides have been made to correct the acting problem identified.
