Classroom Expectations (Test Grade per Quarter) 
In order to have each student be accountable for his/her behavior in class, this rubric will be used as a test grade once per quarter and averaged with his/her other grades in my class.

The student consistently uses inappropriate language and routinely fails to follow daily classroom expectations. Class members are usually treated with disrespect.
Fair

The student does not always use appropriate language or follow daily classroom expectations. Class members are not always treated with respect.
Good

The student uses appropriate language, follows daily classroom expectations and treats class members respectfully.
Exemplary

The student uses appropriate language and leads by example in daily classroom expectations. The student encourages others to be respectful.
Interactions with Staff

The student is disrespectful or argues when speaking to teacher/staff.
Fair

The student is occasionally disrespectful or may argue when speaking to teacher/staff.
Good

The student is respectful and does not argue when speaking to teacher/staff.
Exemplary

The student is always respectful and never argues with teacher/staff and encourages others to behave appropriately in their interactions with teacher/staff.
Preparation for class

(responsibility)

Poor

The student routinely arrives without the materials needed for class (text, math notebook, writing utensil, homework.) Time is often wasted as student must go get these materials.

The student occasionally arrives without the materials needed for class (text, math notebook, writing utensil, homework.) Time is occasionally wasted as student must go get these materials.
Good

The student consistently arrives with the needed materials (text, math notebook, writing utensil, homework.)
Exemplary

The student always arrives prepared for class and encourages others to do the same before the bell rings so as to keep distractions in the classroom to a minimum.
Focus/Follow Directions

(staying on task, respect, listening)

Poor

The student is constantly a distraction to others. The student continuously finds ways to avoid tasks (i.e. going to the restroom, water fountain, ...) Assignments are done with little or no effort.
Fair

The student occasionally is a distraction to others. The student often finds ways to avoid tasks (i.e. going to the restroom, water fountain ...) Assignments are done with minimal effort.
Good

The student is consistently on task. Most assignments are done with reasonable effort.
Exemplary

The student is almost always on task. All assignments are completed and done with best effort.
Class Participation

Poor

The student fails to collaborate or contribute in his/her learning environment. The student fails to give and receive feedback appropriately.
Fair

The student is a weak collaborator and contributor in his/her learning environment. The student gives and receives feedback inconsistently.

The student is a strong collaborator and contributor in his/her learning environment. The student gives and receives feedback appropriately.
Exemplary

The student models collaboration and demonstrates exemplary questioning skills and providing help to others.
Attitude About Learning

Poor

The student complains about class activities, homework, etc. The student challenges the instructor about the need for activities, notes, homework...
Fair

The student has little understanding of reasons for taking the class and may question certain activities searching for clarity. The student does not always respect the instructor's choice of activities and effort is weak.
Good

The student has moderate understanding of reasons for taking the class for self-improvement, respects instructor's choice of activities and participates in most with acceptable effort.
Exemplary

The student has clear reasons for taking the class for self-improvement, with an awareness of own needs; participates in all activities to the best of his/her ability.
Notetaking

(thoroughness, neatness, organizational)

Poor

The student's math notebook is sloppy and inconsistent. The student has little or none of what is written on the board. The table of contents is sparse. The student never gets the notes from days that he/she missed class.
Fair

The student's math notebook is not very well-organized. The student has some of what is written on the board and the table of contents is not consistently updated. The student almost never gets the notes from days that he/she missed class.
Good

The student's math notebook is mostly neat and relatively well-organized. The student has most of what is written on the board and the table of contents has most of the main topics. The student almost always gets the notes from days he/she missed class.
Exemplary

The student's math notebook is neat, organized and easily followed. The student writes everything that is written on the board and the table of contents is thorough. The student always gets the notes from days he/she missed class.
Seeking Help

Poor

The student never asks for clarification of homework and never schedules time outside of class with the instructor (or another teacher) even though it is needed.
Fair

The student rarely asks questions in class about homework and almost never schedules time outside of class with the instructor (or another teacher) as needed.
Good

The student occasionally asks questions in class about homework and occasionally schedules time outside of class with the instructor (or another teacher) as needed.
Exemplary

The student consistently pursues understanding of all topics covered by asking questions in class about homework problems not understood and scheduling time outside of class with the instructor (or another teacher) as needed.
