Format	Poor The document has significant formatting errors (3-5). The document is not labeled correctly and/or the assignment is not complete.	Fair The document shows that the student followed most of the directions with only 1-2 errors. Name and date may not be missing, but the document may have errors in labeling, class period or assignment completion.	Good The document shows that the student followed all directions. It is correctly labeled with name, date, class period and assignment title. All parts of the rubric were summarized.
Summary	Poor The document shows the student does not know how to summarize. The document is just copied verbatim or is not summarized at all.	Fair The document shows an emerging understanding of summary writing. Each section is written in the student's own words with only 1-2 mistakes.	Good The document shows the student knows how to paraphrase. Each section is written in the student's own words and is a true summary of the material.
Mechanics	Poor The document has significant grammatical, punctuation or spelling errors that make it difficult to read.	Fair The document contains a few (3-5) grammatical errors. It has few punctuation or spelling errors.	Good The docment is virtually free from grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors.
Quality	Poor The document is of poor quality. It is evident the student did not try to do their best.	Fair The document is of fair quality. It is evident that the student only put forth a minimal effort.	Good The document is of high quality.
