Knowledge of Dance steps and Moves

Remembers dance story and steps and moves, can follow along with group.

Level 1-2

Remembers a few of the steps/ movements and tries, but looks lost and out of sync with others. Unprepared.
Level 3-4

Demonstrates some knowledge of dance steps and moves, but unsure of some movements. Sometimes hesitates/ watches others and makes some errors.
Level 5-6

Demonstrates good knowledge of dance steps and moves. Keeps up with group. Few errors.
Level 7-8

Demonstrates excellent knowledge of all the dance steps and moves
and performs them well.
On task - learning new skills

Being on task at all times during class time, trying new steps and practicing them to ensure learned.

Level 1-2

The student does not always try new dance moves when guided by teacher and does not always attempt or practice them on own when asked- sits and talks instead.
Level 3-4

Sometimes tries new dance steps and follows the teacher step-by-step instructions. Somtimes practices on their own during class time. Sometimes sits and talks instead.
Level 5-6

Tries new dance steps and follows the teacher step-by-step instructions most of the time. Usually practices on their own in class to learn.
Level 7-8

Always tries new moves and follows teacher step-by-step instructions. Always practices to learn on their own when asked in class.
Classroom Performance Quality

Overall performance of what is learned in class during participation and in formal performance.

Level 1-2

The dancer is not very focused, concentrated or committed to performance (talking, giggling, looking around).
Level 3-4

The dancer is generally focused. Sometimes distracted and insecure.
Level 5-6

The dancer performs with minimal distractions. They look fairly confident and prepared.
Level 7-8

The dancer performs with full confidence. They perform with enthusiasm.
Rhythm/Tempo

Overall rhythm and tempo and ability to keep moves relevant to the music.

Level 1-2

Attempts to keep a rhythm, but gets off beat and speeds up or falls behind often. Moves don't follow the music.
Level 3-4

Shows a basic understanding of tempo and beat, but falls behind and/or speeds up in places.
Level 5-6

Generally accurate in tempo, rhythms of dance sequences most of the time.
Level 7-8

Shows a complete understanding of tempo and beat and keeps the flow throughout the dance.
