Restate	Above Level The question is clearly restated in the answer. The reader knows what the response is going to be about. They understand the question. The reader understands the end purpose.	On Level The question is clearly restated in the answer. The reader knows what the response is going to be about and understands the question. The reader does not understand the end purpose.	Below Level There is an attempt to restate the question in the answer. The question is partially restated, not clearly restated. No purpose or understanding of purpose is attempted.	Far Below Level The question is not restated. Example answer could begin with "Because, So, That, They"
Answer	Above Level The question is fully and correctly answered. The answer shows full understanding of the question.	On Level The question is answered almost fully and correctly. The answer shows the writer understands the question.	Below Level The questions is partly correct or incomplete. The answer does not show the writer has a complete understanding of the question.	Far Below Level The answer is incorrect or does not relate to the question.
Cite Evidence	Above Level Two or more examples of relevant examples are cited and fully answer the question.	On Level One relevant example is cited and fully answer the question.	Below Level One or more examples are cited but do not support the answer.	Far Below Level There are no examples cited.
Explain	Above Level The answer gives reasoning and makes inferences that support the answer.	On Level The answer gives reasoning or inferences that almost answer the question.	Below Level The answer attempts to give reasoning or inferences that support the answer.	Far Below Level No attempt to give reasoning or inferences to support the answer.
Sum Up to Conclude	Above Level The sum up sentence restates the topic sentence and brings a sense of closure to your writing.	On Level The sum up sentence restates the topic sentence and brings a sense of closure to your writing but not as clearly as it could have been answered.	Below Level The sum up sentence attempts to restate the topic but is not clear as a closing.	Far Below Level Little or no attempt to give a sum up or closing sentence.
