Meaning	Unsatisfactory Student is unwilling to compose text / is uncooperative with assignment.	Needs Improvement Topic is unclear and not interesting to the reader. My written expression doesn't show that I understand my topic, because I gave no central ideas and one or no supports for my topic.	Average Topic is clear with few supporting facts. My written expression shows that I have some understanding of my topic, because I have written 2 big ideas, and have only 2 supporting details and/or examples.	Mastery Topic is clear and supported by interesting facts. I have written clearly on the topic, because my writing includes 3 - 4 big ideas, supporting details and examples. It shows that I fully understand the topic by including 3-4 supporting examples or ideas.
Development	Unsatisfactory Student is unwilling to compose text / is uncooperative with assignment.	Needs Improvement My written expression wanders off topic. Sentences are not complete thoughts.
