Original Story Featuring An Existing Character
Students will write an original story featuring a character from either Peter and the Wolf or the Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. Students will incorporate the traits of the character that are found in the original story.

The story is unrelated to the character chosen, and/or all of the character's traits present are inaccurate.

Great
Student puts a lot of time and effort into the entire writing process and works hard to create a quality story.
Good
Student devotes sufficient time and effort to the writing process and finishes story.
Fair
Student puts in some time and effort to the writing process, but is not as thorough as they could be. Story is either unfinished or trails off.
Poor
Student does not put in very much time or effort into the writing process. Story is either incomplete or incomprehensible
Organization
Great
Organization in the story is clear. Ideas follow each other in a logical sequence and clear transitions are present
Good
Organization in the story is good. One or two ideas may seem out of place, but clear transitions are present
Fair
The story is a hard to follow at times, and not all transitions are clear
Poor
Ideas seem to be scattered through story randomly, no clear transitions are present.
Creativity
Great
The story contains many creative and imaginative details that add to the reader's enjoyment
Good
The story contains some creative and imaginative details that add to the reader's enjoyment
Fair
The story contains a few creative and imaginative details, but some of these details are distracting.
Poor
Very little creative or imaginative detail is used in story.
