Meets Standards
The article is current (within 6 months) and related to the assigned current health topic. The article is submitted with Current Events report, in hard copy form.
Approaching Standards
The article submitted is either not current (older than 6 months), is from an invalid source (must be newspaper, magazine, trade journal or internet news source), is not about the assigned topic, or is not enough to cover topic of article.
Below Standards
The article is two or more of the incorrect listings noted in Level 3 criteria and/or was not submitted with Current Events report.
Does Not Meet Standards
The article/source chosen has no relevance to the student's assigned weekly topic.
Summary
Meets Standards
The summary is written in a minimum of 4 sentences. Enough information is given to clearly explain the article without question to the class and teacher, in your own words.
Approaching Standards
The summary of the article is given in less than 4 sentences. A summary in your own words of the main idea and important details is included, but lacking clarity or specifics of the article.
Below Standards
The summary paragraph is written in fewer than 2 sentences. A summary in mostly your own words of the main idea and important details are lacking clarity.
Does Not Meet Standards
The summary is not written in at least 2 sentences but is simply listed or is not done at all, and is not in your own words.
Newsworthiness/reflection
Meets Standards
Does your reflection of the article bring about class participation and discussion? Do you have your own opinion written on the worksheet and is it insightful and meaningful? Explained in the minimum number of sentences.
Approaching Standards
News-worth not detailed in at least than 2 sentences. OR Your reflection not explained in at least 3 sentances
Below Standards
Both of the requirements needed to meet standards are not met, however response is clear in report.
Does Not Meet Standards
Response/Application is missing from report.
Grammar and Mechanics
Meets Standards
Consistent and appropriate agreement, pronouns/tense. Sophisticated and precise word choices. No spelling errors; No punctuation or capitalization errors. Met all style and minimum requirements.
Approaching Standards
Mostly consistent and appropriate agreement, pronouns/tense. Fairly effective word choices. No more than 3 spelling, punctuation or capitalization errors. Met most style and min/max page requirements.
Below Standards
Somewhat consistent and appropriate agreement, pronouns/tense. Correct word choice. No more than 4 spelling, punctuation or capitalization errors. Met some style and min/max page requirements.
Does Not Meet Standards
Inconsistent and inappropriate agreement, pronouns/tense. Poor word choice. More than 5 spelling, punctuation or capitalization errors. Failed to meet style and min/max page requirements. Sources not properly cited. Many errors in format or punctuation.
