Lesson 1	Poor Student does not understand basic principles and elements<BR> of design or their relationship to the design process.	Good Student lists most or all of the principles and elements of design correctly but does not fully understand their meaning as they relate to the design process.	Excellent Student lists correctly all of the principles and elements of design and defines each with a clear understanding of their contribution to the design process.
exercise	Poor Student does not demonstrate an understanding of visual order or when one visual element over another should be emphasized for its importance or effect.	Good Student demonstrates an ability to provide visual order within a specified format but does not do so dynamically so as to attract viewer interest.	Excellent Student unifies all visual elements within a specified format with good taste and strong design sensibilities, and emphasizes key elements over others for effective and dynamic visual communication.
wall critique	Poor Student struggles to explain how they utilized design principles and elements and does not contribute to the group discussion.	Good Student participates in group evaluation but is hesitant with verbal responses when called upon.	Excellent Student participates in group evaluation and shares information easily that might improve their own work, and the work of others.
