Reflective Writing Guidelines for scoring reflective writing.
	Poor 1 pts	Fair 2 pts	Good 3 pts	Excellent 4 pts
Main Idea 20 pts Is your point of view if clear?	Poor The main idea is not present or is unclear.	Fair The main idea is present but does not clearly respond to the prompt.	Good The main idea is present and clearly responds to the prompt.	Excellent The main idea not only responds to the prompt, but includes a meaningful exploration of your feelings, thoughts and personal discoveries.
Enter Title 20 pts Reflection Depth	Poor Contains little Reflective content	Fair Contains only Surface Level Reflection	Good Contains depth in one type of reflection.	Excellent Contains at least two types of reflection
Supporting details 20 pts Does each detail support, or tell more about your original point of view?	Poor The details do not clearly support your original point of view.	Fair Some of the details support your original point of view, but there are some that do not.	Good Each detail supports your original point of view, but the flow or connection between them is sometimes uneven.	Excellent Each detail supports, or tells more about your original point of view with an obvious and consistent flow or connection between them.
Logical order 20 pts Does the order of your supporting details make sense?	Poor The supporting details within the writing as a whole are not developed in a logical order.	Fair There is an attempt to develop the writing in a logical order, but some of the writing may be presented in an order readers may find confusing.	Good Most of the writing is presented in a logical order, and readers should have little trouble following the supporting details.	Excellent The paragraph is developed in a logical order appropriate to the writer's purpose and readers needs.
Grammar and Mechanics 20 pts Does your writing indicate that you have control of the rules of spelling, grammar and mechanics?	Poor The writing contains countless errors in usage, spelling and mechanics most of which are distracting to the reader.	Fair The writing contains several errors in usage, spelling and mechanics, some of which are distracting to the reader.	Good The writing contains a few errors in usage, spelling and mechanics, but they are not distracting to the reader.	Excellent The writing contains 0, 1 or 2 errors. There is nothing in the spelling, usage or mechanics that is distracting to the reader.
