Hero Essay Hero Essay The student will write an essay about their hero. The essay will identify the hero and tell why that person is their hero. Paragraphs	Exemplary - A Organized into 3 paragraphs including an introduction and conclusion paragraph.	Proficient - B Organized into 2 paragraphs with an introduction and conclusion paragraph.	Making Progress - C Organized into 1 paragraph with at least an introduction or conclusion sentence.	Not Yet - D No paragraphs written. Just list of sentences.
Introduction	Exemplary - A Grabs the readers interest right away in the first sentence with creative word choice and in the introduction paragraph identifies who hero is.	Proficient - B Grabs the readers interest somewhere within the first paragraph and identifies who hero is.	Making Progress - C Attempts to grab the readers interest in the first paragraph, but is not quite able, and hero is somewhat identified.	Not Yet - D The introduction does not grab the readers interest and doesn't identify the hero.
Topic Sentences	Exemplary - A Each paragraph begins with a well written topic sentence that lets the reader know exactly what that paragraph will be about.	Proficient - B 3-4 paragraphs begin with a topic sentence that tries to let the reader know what the paragraph will be about.	Making Progress - C 1-2 paragraphs begin with a topic sentence or something close to it to try and explain what the paragraph will be about.	Not Yet - D There are no topic sentences for any paragraphs.
Specific Examples	Exemplary - A Includes at least 3 specific examples of why this person is a hero and includes 3 or more sentences (not including the topic sentence)with details to truly explain each example.
