	Minimal Student does not show evidence of the learning target. 1 pts	Basic Student understands some of which 2 pts	Proficient Student demonstrates secure knowledge of learning target. 3 pts	Advanced Student extends the learning target. 4 pts
Characteristics of Science Fiction Students can recall at least 3 characteristics of Science Fiction and give evidence/proof to support each one.	Minimal Student does not show evidence of the learning target.	Basic Students can recall less than 3 characteristics Science Fiction and don't support them with evidence/proof.	Proficient Students can recall at least 3 characteristics of Science Fiction and give evidence/proof to support each one.	Advanced Student compares/contrasts the Science Fiction story with a read aloud or a personal choice book. They include information about the setting, characters, problem, and theme.
Author's Bias Student identifies and supports the author's bias with proof/evidence from the story.	Minimal Student does not show evidence of the learning target.	Basic Student may identify the author's bias but does not support it. OR Student is confused about the author's bias.	Proficient Student identifies and supports the author's bias with proof/evidence from the story.	Advanced Student connects the author's bias with current problems in society.
Theme Student identifies and supports the theme with proof/evidence from the story.	Minimal Student does not show evidence of the learning target.	Basic Student can't support the theme with proof from the story.	Proficient Student identifies and supports the theme with proof/evidence from the story.	Advanced Student connects the theme with today's issues.
