Professional Development

Artifact to support core value of professional development on behalf of the nurse.
At least two items must be present for this value to be met. If writing sample was included see "Writing sample section below"
Average

Resume or Cirriculum Viatae was included but not up to date.
No copies of diplomas or transcripts from nursing school present.
Less than two artifacts presented.
Did not provide copies of certifications.
Above Average

Minimum Requirement of Two Artifacts Presented. One of which is an updated Resume or Cirriculum Viatae.

Four Artifacts Presented to Represent Professional Development.
Writing Samples

All writing samples except articles submitted for publication will be graded according to this criteria. Each writing sample will be graded separately, the scores will added together and averaged. The final score will reflect an average. A personal philosophy of nursing must be present or the portfolio is not complete.
Average

Sample was unclear or lacked sufficient skill to indicate professional development of behalf of the writer.
Three or more grammatical errors present in sample. Thought processes unclear or not defined.
Above Average

Sample was clearly written will two or less grammatical errors. Sample provided clear examples of thought processes.
Exceeds Average

Sample was extremely clear with one or less grammatical errors. Ideas are well supported. Thought processes are extremely clear.
Life Long Learning

At least one artifact must be present to meet this criteria. A minimum number of continuing education credits (CEU's) to renew license must be submitted with portfolio. Additional continuing education above those required will result in a higher criteria category.
Average

Submitted proof of minimum CEU's for license renewal. No transcripts submitted for working towards advanced degree. No proof of conference attendance.
Above Average

ADN or equivalent with additional 1.4 CEU's completed. Associate's degree or equivalent in nursing with documentation showing work towards bachelor's degree in nursing
Bachelor's (BSN)degree in nursing.
Associate's degree in nursing or equivalent with speciality certification.
Exceeds Average

BSN with speciality certificate.
BSN with additional 1.4 CEUs.
BSN with work towards MSN.
MSN degree or higher.
Leadership

Demonstrates ability to work at a professional level. At least one artifact from this category must be represented in the portfolio. If a nurse belongs to multiple professional organizations each membership is counted separately.
Average

Meets minimum requirement for this category by supplying evidence of one supporting artifact.
Above Average

Submits at least two verifiable supporting artifacts as outlined in the portfolio guidelines.
Exceeds Average

Submits at least three verifable supporting artifacts as outlined in the portfolio guidelines.
Community Involvement

Meets at least one of listed criteria or equivalent.
Average

Meets minimum requirement for this category by supplying evidence of one supporting artifact.
Above Average

Submits at least two verifiable supporting artifacts as outlined in the guidelines
Exceeds Average

Submits at least three verifable artifacts as outlined in the portfolio guidelines.
