Student is to research the whaling industry in New England in the early 1800s. Then the student is to compose at least five journal entries from the point of view of an imaginary sailor or captain while he is out at sea on a whaling voyage. The journal entries should be written to accurately record the experiences a person from this time period could/would have experienced. Some possible topics are: 1) Information about the port of departure. 2) Information aout the kind of men who signed on for whaling expeditions. 3) Information about regions to which the ship travels. 4) Information about how the crew spends its day waiting for whale sightings. 5) Information about a whale chase and kill.

Rubric for Literature--end of unit on Night by Elie Wiesel

Create a paper bag designed with all the literary terms and Freytag pryramid. Also, students must find symbolic representations of the characters, conflict, and theme.

Basic Rubric for Literature Poster Project: Create a poster for your novel. Have pictures and color that best identify with the theme of the novel.

Students must pick a theme and detail the theme visually using images and supporting the theme by using evidence from the text. Using poster paper , magazines, internet sources, or hand-drawings, create a diagram that is neat, organized, and appropriate to convey your chosen theme.
