This rubric is for the brochure project students will complete in English I. The project brings together studies about setting, persuasive writing, and descriptive writing.

Students are to write a short story that demonstrates their understanding of the stages of plot, the importance of conflict, and other characteristics of a short story.

This is a general binder check rubric that will help students to better organize their binders.

For in-class timed argumentative essay

Students are to analyze a book, poem, form of music, or artwork

Below is a chart that shows you exactly how your attendance, class participation, and assignments will be evaluated on a weekly basis.

Students will write their own lyrics (rap or song) about the theme of Friendship using Figurative Language (such as Simile, Metaphor, Personification, and Hyperbole).

Students chose a book to read independently from Canada Reads candidates and then review. The review incorporates information about the book's characters, setting, plot, genre, theme, and writing style.

Honors Poetry Portfolio: This project is the final assessment in the unit of Poetry. This is a two week task wherein students compile original poetry done in class showcasing the use of imagery, sound effects and rhyming, etc. Poems showcase various poetry styles learned, plus free verse poetry of the student.

We can expect students to produce good writing only if they understand what good writing is. For example, a student writing a personal essay needs to know that personal essays express the writer’s thoughts and opinions, often incorporate personal anecdotes or experiences, and are usually written in a less formal style than a literary analysis or other form of essay. In an assessment situation, it is only fair for students to know how their work will be judged. Knowing the criteria for good writing will also help students evaluate and revise their own writing before it is submitted for teacher evaluation.When you give students the criteria, discuss what is expected of them. Student can receive a maximum of 12 points

Unit Test Essay Question

Students will create a song, poem or rap in which they give their explanation of what is wrong with the education system today.

Write a persuasive argument using one of the given prompts. The persuasive essay must contain at least 3 fully developed supporting paragraphs.

Students will write a short story about the fictional character they created at the beginning of the unit

Students are required to answer comprehension questions doing/after class readings. Answers must be written in complete sentences.
