These are posters that illustrate the students' understanding of figurative language: metaphor, simile, idiom, personification, onomatopoeia, allusion, hyperbole and alliteration.

Write a 1 paragraph summary using the note taking page completed as you read "The Jacket" by Gary Soto. Make sure that you include: WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, and WHY. Your summary should be neatly written or typed on Google Docs. You should have an introductory sentence that states the main idea and title of the story and a strong concluding sentence. Make sure you proofread and edit your summary BEFORE turning it in please!

The students are to use a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast themselves to the main character of the story. After considering the various aspects of the characters traits, students will write a paragraph explaining how they would have done things differently than Mako does in the story "Ghost of the Lagoon".

Plot Elements Storyboard in which students create a plot diagram using Storyboard that demonstrates the elements of their book club book. Students must use illustrations, text, and quotes.

The purpose of this rubric is to allow the student to know what the expectations are for writing a comparing/contrasting essay. The student will compare and contrast the drama "The Prince and the Pauper" and the movie "Twain's Tale Transplanted to Today". In preparation for this assignment, the student will have had instruction in the writing process, sentence structure, capitalization, end marks, specific vocabulary words, read the drama and viewed the movie.
