Guidelines for Expository Writing

The student will write a persuasive essay that uses facts to back up their argument. TEK-ELA 4.19 Students will write persuasive texts to influence the attitudes or actions of a specific audience on specific issues. 4.19A Students will write persuasive essays for appropriate audiences that establish a position and use supporting details.

This is a rubric assessing comprehension of bar graphs and assessing if a graph has been designed properly.

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.3.2 Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.3.2a Introduce a topic and group related information together; include illustrations when useful to aiding comprehension. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.3.2b Develop the topic with facts, definitions, and details. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.3.2c Use linking words and phrases (e.g., also, another, and, more, but) to connect ideas within categories of information.

Your poetry book must also include an introductory "Dear Reader" letter explaining why the student picked his/her theme and a graphic organizer on the project pros and cons. Students will also include an illustration that best represents the poetry book theme for the front cover.

Students will create a magazine advertisement using persuasive and effective advertising techniques; complete with logo and word choice. Students also will provide a reflection, stating how the business will be set up, rules that will apply to the business, who and what the business owners will be doing, the supplies that will be needed, and how much was invested in the business.

Create a personal business card that includes your name, business, job title address, phone number, email address, and web page address. The business card must also have a tagline or description of the business with a logo and list of the service or product. The layout is to show an emphasis on your business and your name and title. Use vivid color and an attractive font/letters to make the card appealing to the eye.

Students will demonstrate their knowledge of paragraph organization by writing a 5-paragraph argumentative essay utilizing the writing process of planning, organizing, writing, evaluating and revising.
