This is the rubric used to grade the comparison and contrast essay

The purpose of this rubric is to allow the younger student to know what the expectations are for writing a comparing/contrasting essay. The student will compare and contrast the book Charlotte's Web to the movie of the same name. In preparation for this assignment, the student will have had instruction in the writing process, sentence structure, capitalization, end marks, specific vocabulary words, read the book and viewed the movie. Students will also have had instruction using technology i.e., word processing and power point. This can also be used for older students who lack the appropriate skills to write this type of essay.

This project is the final assessment in the unit of Poetry. This is a multi-week task wherein students compile original poetry written in class showcasing the use of myriad poetic devices. Students need to present the portfolio in its entirety creatively and decoratively. The poems must be a variety and have to include the following types: metaphor; free verse; nonsense; rhyming and one inspired by 'Love That Dog'. The poems in the portfolio must, collectively, use a variety of poetic devices.

Poems showcase various poetry styles learned, plus free verse poetry of the student. Students will submit a compilation of the required poems for a project grade.

Basic Rubric for Literature Fish Diagram: Create a poster for your novel. Have pictures and color that best identify with the theme of the novel.

The students will design a poster that shows symbols and motifs in The Pearl. Description/quotes should be used to link the symbols to themes present in the novella.

Students are to create a newspaper front page, covering the novel MacB by Neil Arksey. The Newspaper should include a full summary of the plot, as well as other creative items such as masthead, headline, pictures, related articles/interviews, editorial, advertisements.

Make a CD/Soundtrack with six songs representing themes, characters and symbols from the novel with an explanation for each song choice. You will create a CD cover, a back cover and fold-out pages on which you provide the name/artist of each song that you choose and provide illustrations inspired by the motifs and symbols present in the novel. The cover design and the choice of songs will be explained in a written document.

For this assignment, you need to write a persuasive speech about an important topic and present your speech. You will be assessed on the content of your topic, delivery, and ability to persuade.

Students will give an informative speech to their peers on a hero of their choice. They will be assessed on content and delivery.

Guidelines for scoring an expository essay.

Students take a stance on a topic and support it. A brief counterargument is included.

The student is to research a prominent playwright, and then write and present a biography poster or power point on this important literary figure. This biography includes information about the person's life, what led them to their chosen career or purpose, what contributions they made to society, interesting or unique facts about the person, and the student's own reflections about the impact that the person and their contributions have on modern times, focusing on one particular play.

The student will demonstrate how well they know the character by presenting a character wanted poster about a character in the book from their Book Report Book.

When writing your one paragraph short answer for the exam, this is what your answer will be graded on. Short answer paragraphs are worth four points each for a total of 29 points.

Write a persuasive argument on a topic of your choosing. The persuasive essay must contain at least 5 fully developed paragraphs.

Students will write a Response to literature. They must include at least 5 paragrahs,and 2 pages long in total: summary of text, text-to-self connection, and opinion of the text.
