Comparison and Contrast Essay

Compare/Contrast Essay: Book to movie (Expos. Essay Standard
The purpose of this rubric is to allow the younger student to know what the expectations are for writing a comparing/contrasting essay. The student will compare and contrast the book Charlotte's Web to the movie of the same name. In preparation for this assignment, the student will have had instruction in the writing process, sentence structure, capitalization, end marks, specific vocabulary words, read the book and viewed the movie. Students will also have had instruction using technology i.e., word processing and power point. This can also be used for older students who lack the appropriate skills to write this type of essay.

Poetry Portfolio
This project is the final assessment in the unit of Poetry. This is a multi-week task wherein students compile original poetry written in class showcasing the use of myriad poetic devices. Students need to present the portfolio in its entirety creatively and decoratively. The poems must be a variety and have to include the following types: metaphor; free verse; nonsense; rhyming and one inspired by 'Love That Dog'. The poems in the portfolio must, collectively, use a variety of poetic devices.

The cover design and the choice of songs will be explained in a written document.
