The goal of this essay is to formally analyze a short story we have read in class, offering your interpretation of why two elements of fiction are important and central in understanding the story.

This rubric is for planning, creating, and grading the finished product or FINAL DRAFT of this essay.

Use this rubric to evaluate how well your group's handout will succeed when presenting, and also use it to evaluate how well it communicated the strategy after presenting it in seminar.

This rubric is meant to help guide in the creation of your PowerPoint presentation project. Each category in the far left column represents a component of the project that will be taken into consideration when calculating the final grade for this assignment. Review the rubric carefully before, during and after the creation of the PowerPoint presentation, to ensure that all intended elements of your PowerPoint have been represented and all other criteria have been met.

Below is a chart that shows you exactly how your class participation is assessed. Forms of participation other than participating in class discussion (although this is a primary form of participation) include coming to me for extra help, giving other students feedback in class, writing and taking notes, active listening, and writing in your journals, handouts, and annotating texts.

Write an essay in which you discuss the causes of a specific local or national event that occurred within the last three years. First REFLECT on the event, it's causes and effects. Then, RESEARCH the event, searching for causes and effects you had not yet considered. (You'll need two source articles for research and for documentation in your paper.) Prior to starting writing, Read CTTW Ch. 10, paying careful attention to the purple lined writing project at the end.

Final paper in ENC 1101. This will be a more formal, academic paper that focuses on a contemporary or current issue. More than one side of the issue must be examined with the help of four (4) or more outside sources. Sources are to be introduced, accurately quoted and summarized, and cited in -text and in the References/Works Cited page.

This essay is a chance to deeply consider a belief, looking closely at a particular experience that formed, challenged or supports that belief. It also places the belief held in context of awareness that others may not have the same belief or experiences.
