Group work on a story read in individual groups. Finding plot and characters in the story. Make a poster in the group after reading the story together.

Working in groups of three to four, students will work collaboratively on a presentation to the class based on the in class text reading of the American Dream and each group member's interpretation. Each group will prepare an 8 to 10 minute presentation to the class on their topic. Each group presentation shall include a tri-fold poster prepared by the group illustrating the group’s particular interpretation.

Evaluates a narrative/personal essay

The attached rubric supports Argumentative Essay Writing under the Common Core State Standards.

This rubric is used to evaluate students persuasive argumentative essay.

Students will demonstrate their knowledge of paragraph organization by writing a 5-paragraph argumentative essay utilizing the writing process of planning, organizing, writing, evaluating and revising. The essay is supported by research with citations.

For Black History Month, the student is to research, write, and present a biography on an important historical figure. This biography includes information on the person's early life, what led them to their chosen career or purpose, what contributions they made to society, interesting or unique facts about the person, and the student's own reflections about the impact that the person and their contributions have on modern times.
