A scientific method assessment used to carry out student research.

Students are asked to create a planning page for a project and then design, build and demonstrate it for the class highlighting the key terms and concepts of electricity, magnetism, force and motion.

This rubric is used to asses the demonstration of a particular skill. The rubric is designed to account for C, B, and A levels of competency, (70%, 80% AND 90%). Any skills below this level should be repeated.

Students will create a pamphlet on the topic of light and living things.

S8P4 Students will explore the wave nature of sound and EM radiation. e. Relate the properties of sound to everyday experiences. Objective: Students will research how musical instruments make sounds and the four basic categories of musical instruments (string, wind, brass, and percussion). Students will construct and present a homemade musical instrument.

Students will present a music video with orginal lyrics on waves.

Students will create a presentation looking at waves from the viewpoint of a mathematician.

S8P5 Students will study the way sound and electromagnetic radiation travel as waves. S8P4.a Point/pick out the characteristics of electromagnetic and mechanical waves. Mechanical waves travel through material such as water. Electromagnetic waves travel trough space. S8P4.f Diagram the parts of a wave and explain how the parts change by changes in amplitude and pitch. S8P4.b Describe how the behavior of light waves is affected by reflection, refraction, diffraction, and absorption. Light waves change when they hit material, the way they change depend on the material the waves hit. S8P4.d Describe how waves behave differently as they pass through different solids; through liquids, such as water; through gases, such as air.

In teams of 3, students design, construct, & successfully test a model trebuchet. The test consists of hitting a 4'x4' target placed vertically at a distance of 25' from the trebuchet.

Completion of set tasks during class discovery.

Middle Grades 6-8. Students asked to investigate a question or problem. Test or create a solution. Record the process in a journal and comple a binder with all data and display board were required to prove or disprove their hypothesis or display their prototype

Evaluate students' ability to write a good scientific hypothesis, including identifying IV and DV

Students will create a story book about the natural disaster their team is studying.

Students are asked to prepare a coming attractions movie trailer for a movie about to be released based on their research subjects.

Create a 5-10 minute film adaptation of one or many texts from this semester.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the vocabulary of the Earth's Interior; Students were instructed to create an artistic representation of the Earth's Interior.
