Research the approved topic. Submit one 5-7 page typed paper, double spaced, 12 point font following APA guidelines. Include a bibliography citing at least 4 resources used researching the paper. Paper will be graded on quality of research to support the topic, effective use of information gained through research, credibility of sources, content, grammar and mechanics, and bibliography.

Research to Build and Present Knowledge Conduct short research project that builds knowledge through investigation of different aspects of a topic. Rubric for an annotated bibliography consisting of at least 8 annotations of resources to be used to support a research proposal.

The writer should paint a picture so that the reader can easily see what the writer is describing, and should be logical in terms of organization and structure. In addition, the paper should "show," not tell, by providing clear descriptions that support the points the writer is making. The writer's comprehension of the subject and his/her writing skills should also be evident in the correct use of appropriate vocabulary and grammar.

The rubric is used to appraise the introductory research paper that specifies a topic of interest; identifies a problem; proposes a need for a study; formulates a research hypothesis, provides preliminary background data in the form of a review of literature, and the methods of the proposed research.

Oral communication is a prepared, purposeful presentation designed to increase knowledge, to foster understanding, or to promote change in the listeners' attitudes, values, beliefs, or behaviors. Oral communication takes many forms. This rubric is specifically designed to evaluate oral presentations of a single speaker at a time and is best applied to live or video-recorded presentations. For panel presentations or group presentations, it is recommended that each speaker be evaluated separately. This rubric best applies to presentations of sufficient length such that a central message is conveyed, supported by one or more forms of supporting materials and includes a purposeful organization. An oral answer to a single question not designed to be structured into a presentation does not readily apply to this rubric.
