Students learned reading strategies to be applied before, during and after reading. Strategies such as asking questions, visualizing, making inferences and determining the important information.

Students have learned the RACE strategy. How to find and cite important information from informational texts.

Key assessment-Math chapter 2 & 3

Creating and Presenting a commercial: apply the creative process to drama and the development of commercial, using the elements and conventions of drama to communicate a advertisement convincing an audience to buy a product.

Student will learn about two ancient civilizations" Tomboutou and ancient Egypt. Students will research where these civilizations are situated, their beliefs, religious practices and places of worship. Students will also compare these two civilizations with Medieval England and ancient Rome.

Poetry: Assessment in the unit of Poetry. Students created original poetry with the use of imagery, figurative language, and mood. Poems showcase "les calligrammes" created by Guillaume Apollinaire.

Students have written a journal about an imaginary journey to space on a space ship. Students were asked to present the journal in an oral presentation to the class.

Students read a story and were asked to make three connections to the story. The first connection was text-to-self, then text-to-text and finally text-to-world.

Students read the newspaper article on Viola Desmond and were asked to complete comprehension questions. Students were also asked to expand their vocabulary and to reflect on the important concepts in the biography.

Students have read a story and determined the big 6 questions. Who, what, why, where, when, how in a story.

Speaking Rubric for diagnostic test. Level Beginners 1

Create a storyboard based on a fairy tale or fable of your choice. Using 8 boxes illustrate the appropriate images to depict the essence of the fairytale or fable you have chosen. Each box must contain an illustration and some sentences to describe the scene.

Students will work in groups of three our four people to create a puppet skit with dialogue. The skit should be a minimum of three minutes to a maximum of five minutes. The group will bring socks and create puppets as their characters for the skit. A group puppet show will then be performed in class. (Students will act it out with fellow classmates using their sock puppets). **Each student will be given an individual mark.

Students will compare aspects of life Canadian life to various ancient civilizations.

Students are learning about the importance of history. How we learn about history and why it is important to know events in the past. Students also exploring artifacts and how to create a time line.

Students use techniques of Pointillism to create art work of their choice.

Students will design a new $10 Canadian bill with Viola Desmond.
