This is a rubric for beginning band students in their first year of playing. It is a general guidline for the skills they are learning. It is intended to help them understand what is expected of them.

PYP- How the World Works: G4 Energy Unit: Sound Energy

This rubric describes the criteria to be graded for piano performance.

Music Practices Practising and performing music, learnt aurally and through reading from invented and learnt symbols Singing and playing music to explore the expressive possibilities of their voices and instruments, for example in music games Present and Perform Following cues when performing songs and short instrumental pieces they have learnt Accurately playing and singing rhythmic and melodic phrases and patterns using tuned instruments

This rubric assess the students' ability to read music notes on the treble clef staff.

Students will use common rhythms and simple melodic gestures to compose a 32 measure composition in either 3/4 or 4/4 time. Students will have numerous class periods to complete the assignment. Students will also turn in a self reflection describing the cognitive process they used in developing their composition.

Students are asked to perform a steady macrobeat on the xylophone to a given piece of music.

Students will be placed in "bands" with fellow classmates. They must work together to create music.

Write an Anthem based on the UOI "Governments"using the notes of the C Major scale and the chord changes provided.

Students will use common rhythms and simple melodic gestures to compose a 32 measure composition in either 3/4 or 4/4 time. Students will have numerous class periods to complete the assignment. Students will also turn in a self reflection describing the cognitive process they used in developing their composition.

I understand rhythms and their values. I can perform a given rhythm by clapping and speaking the rhythm syllables.

Students write lyrics for Lil' Liza Jane

Students will create mood music to accompany their poetry.
