You are to use a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast yourself to a character from your book. After considering the various aspects of the characters life, you will write about a relevant event relating to that character. Include any personal thoughts or reflections.

The purpose of this rubric is to allow the special needs student to know what the expectations are for writing a comparing/contrasting paragraph or 3 paragraph essay. Students need to utilize the key words to signal compare and contrast.

Students will be able to write a paragraph describing Nasreen's Grandmother from the book, Nasreen's Secret School and cite evidence from the book to support their character traits.

Students create a character drawing that outlines a character's traits using evidence from the text. Then write about the character traits and connect the evidence from the text to create a picture of the character.

The students will create a poster illustrating internal and external character traits of characters from the Climb.

The students had to create a flow map of summary using story elements. The first box has to include the main characters. The second box must include the problem. The third box must include the attempts to solve the problem. and the fourth box must be the solution to the problem. Also know as "somebody, wanted, but, so then..." strategy.

Students will write a memory in the form of a narrative that takes place or related to a place in their own neighborhood. Students must write at least 5 sentences.

Opinion Paragraph on one topic, include a sentence showing the students opinion, 3 reasons to support it and a conclusion sentence that restates the opinion.

The students will compare and contrast 2 cities they have read about. They will include at least 3 similarities and differences found in the text.

Book reports

Students will be graded on their abilities of creating a Venn Diagram that compares and contrasts themselves to the character Thomas from Rain School. The criteria that the students will be graded are; proper construction of the Venn Diagram, correct grammar and spelling, the number of compare and contrast details provided, and the accuracy of the details in the Venn Diagram. The columns show up to how many points students can be awarded depending if they meet the criteria.
