Students will be able to play specified scales on the piano/keyboard.

Students will use common rhythms and simple melodic gestures to compose a 8-16 measure composition in either 3/4 or 4/4 time. Students will have numerous class periods to complete the assignment. Students will also turn in a self reflection describing the cognitive process they used in developing their composition.

Students will use common rhythms and simple melodic gestures to compose a 32 measure composition. The composition should include a major scale in C. There should be repetition in their score. Both clefs (or instruments) should work well with each other.

In this activity, you will create three invented notations, each for a different teacher-provided phrase in three different mediums: language, math, and music. The purpose of this activity is to gain some practice with both making invented notations and also interpreting invented notations of others. An invented notation is a notation that is created by the notator, using whatever system he or she devises to symbolize the necessary elements of the medium being notated.
