Students will create an artistic project about the epic poem Beowulf. The object of which is to follow Beowulf, accurately, on his adventures.

Students will choose and construct a creative representation of their novel from the choices provided.

Rubric for Literature

You will create a new Superhero. He/she must have a name, special powers, costume, weaknesses, secret identity, and an explanation of how they are able to function as a SuperHero and manage their Tourettes at the same time in an Imaginative Essay. The poster will be designed on paper at least your height. Your Superhero will also contain key vocabulary words that you have learned since October and the coping with anxiety strategies.

Create a song/story/comic that demonstrates an understanding of this unit's Vocabulary. The writing should include key vocabulary term from Page 507

Generalized rubric to cover a variety of note-taking formats

After reading about epic heroes and learning about the archetypal hero's journey, students were to create a project in which they applied their knowledge of the hero's journey as they created an original hero and archetypal journey.

Used for self assessment in time management to accomplish tasks throughout Language Arts period.

The following rubric will list the specific areas that students will be assessed during informal academic class work.

The students will work in groups of no more than 4 to put together a poster for display. The poster will contain relevant information directly related to the story Beowulf and the character Grendel.

Students will create a comic book about the Battle between Beowulf and Grendel's mother, using either common language, or exact lines from the poem, with line numbers noted.

Tell the story of Beowulf's battle with Grendel or Grendel's mother in Beowulf's own words.

Develop/create a website based on the novel Beowulf (translated by Burton Raffel). Include such things as images of the characters as you envision them, a summary page, a commentary page, and a Beowulf links page. Remember to document ALL of your sources. This is a partner project.

Students will create a board game about the epic poem Beowulf, the object of which is to follow Beowulf on his adventure

Create a scrapbook of Beowulf's life. Include people, places, and events. The scrapbook may include details leading up to the battle with Grendel and up until his death and funeral. Scrapbook must be a minimum of five pages, not including title page, and must be turned in with paper explaining your pages.

Using magazine photos, create a collage of images that symbolize important ideas, events or themes in Beowulf. On a separate sheet of paper, explain what each image/quotation symbolizes and how it draws on key material from the character's experience.

Write and perform a eulogy for Beowulf/Grendel. The eulogy should praise, commend, and honor Beowulf (Grendel). If the eulogy is about Grendel, the information must be based on the novel Grendel by John Gardner.

Create a collage of images and/or quotations from Beowulf that demonstrate teh theme or message.
