Students were asked to write a short using a specific genre. Students were to incorporate a clear conflict and resolution. Students were also responsible for including at least three literary devices. Components included are the beginning, ending, characters, setting, and conventions.

This rubric is designed to assess students understanding of "All American Boys" The tasks are meant to display the students understanding of the themes identified in the book.

Character portfolio

Write a poem about a topic of interest to you. Incorporate the elements of poetry we discussed in class. Include at least 2 examples of each listed figurative language. Grammar should be used correctly; if you use slang, the grammar should be appropriate for the topic. You must identify the figurative language used in each line.

This writing assignment will have the student

a research paper in which students choose a modern day person and show how he or she is a hero.

Research and develop a full understanding of one “classic” hero of literature. Once you have explained the classic character find a modern hero who exhibits the same characteristics. This person can be a famous athlete, actor, politician, or any historical figure. The only criteria is that he or she is ALIVE as of March 1st, 2010. Research and explain in your paper how and why he or she is considered a hero/heroine of yours.
