Using the concept of Appalachian Face Jugs, students will create a ceramic mug using slab construction techniques. Facial features will then be applied. Students will aspire to make the most outrageously ugly faces possible.

Chuck Close Grid Drawing

Using a digital photo/picture, grid the photo in a no more than 1.5 cm grid. Create a similar grid on your 9X12 sketch paper to transfer your drawing. You may transfer the outline ONLY of your photo. After drawing the outline (if you choose) transfer your photo using Chuck Close's style (a different design in each grid). You may use the medium of your choice in color or black & white. You will be graded on your own personal artistic style, and use of the line, color and shape elements of art.

Create a 9 x 12 full page zentangle/abstract line design to include both geometric and organic shapes; using pattern;implementing line, shape, balance, unity and emphasis. Final drawing will be cut and folded/arranged to create a 3-D effect.

This rubric is used for the linear perspective final assignment.

3-D Design

Students will create a painting inspired by the style of Georgia O'Keefe.

Student had to choose two images that relate in some way, preferably as opposites. They were to depict each image using a distinctly different color scheme and assemble the images together as an agamograph.

Students will draw a hand from observation/photo reference, focusing on proper proportion and value range. They will make the hand the main subject of the image and work with one of the following themes- narrrative, handscape, communication, holding an object. The background must relate to the foreground in the final design.

The student will demonstrate an understanding of how to paint an aboriginal dot painting.

Using the slab technique, create a lidded box that measures at least 8 inches, but no more than 12 inches (length + width). Elevate this box at least one inch off the ground. Use decorative techniques to create a design theme.

Students will use pen & ink to create a drawing of an object. Hatching, crosshatching, inkwash and stippling will create value and texture. Line work will be carefully and precisely executed to a professional level.

Students studied examples of masks from multiple cultures and were introduced to a brief history on mask making purposes. Students constructed their own masks based on their original designs and cultures.
