Over the course of the hydroponic semester, the students observe plant growth. Then they will create a plant journal by writing descriptions, taking pictures, drawing pictures, recording data, and making graphs.

-Label and describe the parts of a plant. •List the important things needed for plant growth. •Demonstrate knowledge and use of words related to seeds and plants. •Describe how plants grow and what they need to grow. •There are seven basic requirements that plants need in order to grow properly: temperature, light, water, air, nutrients, time, and room to grow. •You can eat certain plant parts. They are important food sources for both humans and other animals. •Plants can be grown both indoors and outdoors for food, shelter, clothing, medicine, energy, and pleasure.

This is a rubric for a 10 lesson unit on hydroponic systems.

A picture storybook, one of several cumulating activities for this unit, will assess student’s knowledge of hydroponic gardening.
