Individual Project Assessment

A rubric that properly evaluates the artistic process of a student using the scratchboard medium.

Students will practice developing and enhancing drawing skills. Students will draw themselves or a partner using contour continuos line. The element of line will be focused on, as lines make shapes, and contour lines can make them look like forms. Lines can also create texture

Draw in contour at least two hands in an expressive position. Cross contour lines then should be added to express the form of the hands. Give little or no attention to value. Pay attention to the accuracy of your drawing with correct proportions. Students will demonstrate (5) line qualities within an assessment: contour, blind contour, bold, crosshatching, and contour hatching.

Portrait Drawings: Pencil drawing of head, neck and shoulders, shaded emphasizing highlights midtones and shadows.

Value Composition in Graphite and charcoal Composition demonstrates students ability to create an Illusion of volume/form using the element of Art:Value/ principle of composition. Composition uses all shapes/forms studied that overlap; value is added to the contour drawing using one or more of the methods taught in class (value scale only)Composition shows at least 3-4 values of shading and includes the 5 Principles of Shading: highlight, shade, shadow, reflected light and backshading.

Using a watercolor and ink base, you will develop and build images using mixed media: colored pencil, sharpie, collage etc., You will create 3 paintings. 1 photomontage, 1 surreal and 1 abstract expressionist painting

Using a digital photo, grid the photo in a 1/2 inch grid. Then create a 1 inch grid on your drawing paper to transfer your drawing to. After transferring your drawing using the grid, use two different mediums and color/shade your drawing. You will be graded on incorporating your own personal artistic style, use composition and design, craftsmanship, and effort.

The students will learn about different ways paper can be manipulated. The students will gain experience in collaboration. Develop observation skills while creating contour line drawings. Recreate paper sculptures and learn the basics of this versatile medium. Transform a flat sheet of paper into a finished sculpture. Build an artistic armature using foamcore decorated with tissue paper
