Basic rubric for an introductory argumentative paper on any topic. No research required but may be included if paper is based on an article. Look for the beginnings of a thesis, choosing a side and sticking with it, ability to persuade, and distinct paragraphs with supporting points. No rebuttal. Special attention paid to developing academic writing: Eliminating cliches, improving grammar, increasing vocabulary, including specific details.

Use your copy of this rubric to guide the creation of your slideshow/oral presentations for this course. Criteria are clearly defined as to what makes a "grade A" presentation. Your grade is determined by 5 components: Content, Organization, Language & Fluency, Presentation, and Additional Resources. You are shooting for Level 4!

This Rubric will assess how completely and efficiently you have kept your assignments, notes and handouts organized in your folder.

Research the approved topic. Submit one 7-10 page typed paper, double spaced, 12 point font following MLA guidelines. Include a bibliography citing at least 5 resources used researching the paper. (use quotes from all 5)sources should include a news paper, professional journal, your text and two other books. Quotes can not be more than 5 lines. You are encouraged to interject your personal opinion into this paper. Paper will be graded on quality of research to support the topic, effective use of information gained through research, credibility of sources, content, grammar and mechanics, and bibliography.

This is the second in a series of assignments to help you write your research paper for this class. For this assignment, I would like you to map out your research paper. This assignment will help you see the “big picture” and organize your thinking.

Students will identify characteristics of good citizens using the vocabulary provided in the TEK, by working cooperatively to research a historic figure to identify what characteristic they displayed.

Students will demonstrate their knowledge of paragraph organization by writing a 5-paragraph argumentative essay utilizing the writing process of planning, organizing, writing, evaluating and revising.

I can write an expository (descriptive) piece of writing that has a clear topic sentence. I can write an expository(descriptive) piece of writing that has clear details that support my topic sentence. I can write an expository(descriptive) piece of writing with sentences that are in a logical order. I can write a conclusion that restates my topic and ties the details together.

Students choose an issue of concern and write a letter to the editor of a newspaper, a letter to a member of the government or another interested party.
