History Socratic Seminar
The purpose of a Socratic Seminar is to achieve a deeper understanding about the ideas and values in primary sources. In a Seminar, participants question and examine issues and ideas related to a source, and articulate different points-of-view about these issues. Students are required to support every statement with sound reasoning and appropriate examples.

Reflections allow students the opportunity to think about their experiences and "get the learning out" of these experiences. Minute Paper on the Civil War & Reconstruction
After participating in a Jigsaw Activity on the Civil War and Reconstruction, students will write a minute paper on the topic, reflecting on all that they have learned during the activity, and writing down their thoughts about the topic.

Jigsaw Activity on the Civil War & Reconstruction(1850-1877)
Students will work in 7 groups of 6-7 students per home group. They will research sub-topics on the main topic two week ahead. They will come to class and work in expert groups made up of members from other home groups who worked on the same sub-topic. They will then return to their own home group and present their sub-topic to their home group. Each student will be evaluated on their ability to present everything they have learned in a clear and coherent manner.

Historic Mobile in Photos
Working in teams, students will research and explore designated historical sites in Mobile, and surrounding areas, and photograph these sites. Information obtained from research done on each site will be written in a notebook. Each team will create a collage of 10 photographs that will be professionally displayed on a tri-fold poster board. Each photograph will include a short historical narrative containing historical information about that photo.
