Evaluates a narrative/personal essay

The students will compare and contrast 1 superhero from the DC Comics universe and the Marvel Comics universe.

This rubric will be used to assess handwriting in writing assignments and handwriting practice.

My 5th grade students maintain reading logs for the books they are reading independently. Students are given freedom in choosing topics for their writing, so long as they are completing an entry after each independent reading session. They take their reading logs home on a daily basis to review with their parents and get them signed. I collect reading logs throughout the week (each student has a designated day that their log is to be turned in) and provide feedback.

Completion of set tasks. Student must complete with 80% in order to pass.

Assessment of Elementary Level Writing - 3rd Grade

Students will use this rubric as they write a 3 - 5 paragraph research paper about a topic of choice. It will then be there grading rubric when paper is completed.

Students will use this rubric as they write a 3 - 5 page research paper about the country of Ecuador and it's capital of Quinto.

Rubric for alternatives to book reports or traditional book reports

The purpose of this rubric is to allow the younger student to know what the expectations are for writing a comparing/contrasting essay. The student will compare and contrast the book Charlotte's Web to the movie of the same name. In preparation for this assignment, the student will have had instruction in the writing process, sentence structure, capitalization, end marks, specific vocabulary words, read the book and viewed the movie. Students will also have had instruction using technology i.e., word processing and power point. This can also be used for older students who lack the appropriate skills to write this type of essay.

The purpose of this rubric is to allow the student to transition from brainstorming and organizing ideas to drafting units of words such as phrases, clauses, sentences, and paragraphs.

Week One: Venn Diagram/Prewriting. The students are to use a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast themselves to the main character of the story. After considering the various aspects of the characters life, the students will PreWrite (Rough Draft) about a relevant event relating to that character. They should include any personal thoughts or reflections. Week Two: Expand & Publish
