In my role as intervention specialist I work with students who have been identified as needing special education services and support to be successful. I assist these students in various aspects of their education including small group/1:1 assistance for reteaching, remediation, test-taking, organizational skills and general assistance in areas of needs within the curriculum, adapting/modifying assignments/assessments based on student need and by monitoring student progress on a frequent basis.
In addition to working directly with the students I also have regular (daily) consultation with the general education teachers regarding the students, the classroom curriculum and assignments. I currently attend the Math and Language Arts classes with specific groups of 7th and 8th grade students. This makes me easily accessible to the students and teachers during instruction and independent work times.
I also try to keep in frequent contact with parents about their child’s progress and concerns. It is my hope that by being actively involved with the student, teachers and parents we can all work together to make our students as successful as possible.
