COL 105

Course Description:

College 105 is a freshman seminar course that is also a transferable course. In it skills such as self-respect, learning how to be a creator and not a victim, and scholastic discipline are taught and learned numerous times. The topics and discussions that go on in this class are interchangable between outside life (work, relationships, etc.) and school situations. This class also stresses group work and the importance it has to a persons individual success.

Events:

The Ethnicity Workshop and Plagerism Workshop

Reflection on Ethnicity Workshop:

During the event we discussed ethnic awareness and understanding. Along with this the topic of how to handle situations in work, school, and social relationships with ethnic groups should be handled. Exercises like word association, group identifications, and real life situations to give participants a hands-on experience. The workshop showed that there are many different groups that are based outside of a certain race, which is a common misconception that ethnic groups are only race related. Sexuality, religion, etc. are among the other groups that are ethnicities in the world. The activities created a certain sense of open mindedness as well as sensitivity towards dealings with ethnic groups.

Reflection on Plagerism Workshop:

In this workshop multiple methods for citations and ways to avoid plagerism were taught. A simple process was shown to participants including a breakdown of the MLA formatting sequence. Without the help of this activity then it would be much harder for students to avoid plagerism and the inevitable zero grade with and academic punishment ensuing.
