COL 105

The COL 105 course is designed to teach valuable college skills. It is designed to teach students new ways to look at study habits and stress management techniques. It also assists in building long lasting friendships. With the designation of ‘Success Teams,’ this course teaches team building techniques. Upon completion of this course every student should have a better understanding of themselves and what it takes to make it in a college environment.

Campus Event #1
This was a seminar with political cartoonist Kate Salley Palmer. She talked about why she started drawing political cartoons and what it takes to make it as a political cartoonist. She was also on hand to field any questions the audience had and to show some of her most admired work.
I learned some valuable information from this seminar. I learned that you can’t be afraid to follow your dreams. You also can’t be afraid to offend certain people if need be. You also have to be open to your own feelings. If you have an urge to do something you have to go for it. Even if you know that it will never work or no one will ever see it you just have to follow what is in your heart.
Campus Event #2
This was a ceremony where a wreath was laid to honor all veterans that have fought to defend our freedom. It was also to honor those who didn’t make it back home. A guest speaker, Capt Phillip B. Piazza, talked about his triumphs over the past years and conflicts he had fought in.

This event was very special to me. Not only because I am a veteran but because I was the person placing the wreath. It was a very humbling experience to be able to lay a wreath to honor all who have fought. It reminds me of an old saying ‘All gave some, some gave all.’ I never knew how much that saying meant until I went to war. No one leaves combat without being wounded. Not ever wound wins you a purple heart. Ever person that goes to combat leaves with emotional scars from the things they had to go through.

"Tri-County Technical College hosted a Veterans Day Memorial Service Nov. 11, 2008. As part of the program, Captain Philip B. Piazza, of Seneca, right, a World War II veteran who is a distinguished member of the 75th Ranger Regiment and a member of the Ranger Hall of Fame, gave a speech. Following his remarks, he and Bobby Owens, of [Liberty], a Tri-County student and Iraqi Freedom veteran, placed a wreath at the memorial in the Veterans Memorial Plaza located in front of the college."4
