Class Description: The college skills course at TCTC helped new college students adjust to a college environment and helped students learn what is needed to be done in order to be successful in college. In this course, you will have created success teams that help you with assignments and other projects in college. It has teaches how to view a situation from multiple perspectives. This class has helped me switch to college life and make new friends that can help me with homework and talk to outside of class. It has also helped me understand how I think and act on the inside through journals and other activities throughout the semester and how I can change them to make myself a better person.

Diversity Workshop: One of the events I attended outside of class was the diversity workshop. In there, they taught us how there is a wide variety of people everywhere we go. There were also many different groups located on the TCTC campus. It teaches us not to make quick judgments about people. Both of the teachers told us that everyone is different, but we are all in same boat with trying to fit in with a college surrounding and to be accepted by others. It is always hard for someone from a different background, race, or religion to fit into another society.

Reflection: After participating in this workshop, it helped me learn about the many groups of people that also go to Tri-County. They also try to fit in with other college students in order to feel more at ease and to make new friends. I realized that I was also in the same place as they are. That was trying to be accepted by other people at the college.

Political Cartoon: Another out of class event that I attended was a political cartoon that was at the TCTC Auditorium. We viewed many different types of drawings that artists create about the latest politics and those that were created for past elections. Kate Sally Palmer was one of the artists at this event. She told us a bit about her life growing up and also talked about each one of the sketches she made for the debates in politics. She also put some humorous content into the sketches just to get anyone looking at the picture to understand her thoughts on the subject.

Reflection: I found out that you do not necessarily have to be a great artist to be a political cartoonist. I learned that there are not any jobs for this skill and that this is done during her free time. We were also able to ask any questions after the presentation. She is a very nice lady and loved to talk about her works.
